Expertise in SMT PCB Assembly

Expertise in SMT PCB Assembly

Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is the backbone of modern electronics. At STHL, we handle a wide range of advanced, high-density components with extreme precision:

  • Ball Grid Array (BGA) & Ultra-Fine BGA (uBGA): We place BGAs down to 0.3mm pitch, utilizing advanced 3D X-Ray inspection to verify solder ball alignment and eliminate voiding.
  • QFN, QFP, SOIC, and PLCC Packages: Precise stencil design and solder paste printing prevent bridging and tombstoning on fine-pitch leaded components.
  • Package-on-Package (PoP) & Small Chips: We reliably place 0201 and 01005 passive components, supporting the miniaturization demands of modern IoT and mobile devices.

Our commitment to quality is backed by automated optical inspection (AOI), solder paste inspection (SPI), and real-time process monitoring to guarantee zero-defect shipments.

Through-Hole Technology (THT) Assembly Strength

For high-stress, high-power, and mechanically demanding applications, Through-Hole Technology remains indispensable. STHL offers robust THT assembly solutions:

  • Manual & Automatic Component Insertion: Combining high-speed radial/axial insertion machines with skilled manual assembly for complex connectors and heavy components.
  • Custom THT Assembly Fixtures: Specially designed wave soldering pallets protect SMT components on double-sided boards while ensuring uniform solder joints on THT leads.
  • ESD & RoHS Compliant Soldering: Lead-free wave soldering and selective soldering systems meet strict environmental and static-sensitive handling requirements.
  • Rigorous Testing: Every THT board undergoes visual inspection, AOI, and functional testing to verify joint integrity and electrical continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Get answers to common technical and logistical questions regarding our OEM SMD board assembly services.

What certifications does STHL hold for electronics manufacturing? +
STHL is fully certified under IATF 16949 (Automotive Quality Management), ISO 13485 (Medical Device Quality Management), ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems). All of our assembly processes comply with RoHS and REACH standards, and we can manufacture products to IPC-A-610 Class 2 or Class 3 standards depending on your application requirements.
How do you guarantee the quality of SMT and THT solder joints? +
We utilize a multi-stage inspection process. For SMT, we use 3D Solder Paste Inspection (SPI) after printing, followed by 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) post-reflow. For BGAs and leadless components, we perform 3D X-Ray inspection to check for internal voiding, bridging, and solder ball alignment. THT components undergo visual inspection and wave-solder profiling, followed by functional testing (FCT) and In-Circuit Testing (ICT) to verify electrical performance.
Can STHL assist with component sourcing and obsolescence management? +
Yes, we offer full turnkey component sourcing. We source directly from authorized distributors (such as Arrow, Avnet, Future Electronics, Digi-Key, and Mouser) as well as verified local manufacturers in China. Our procurement team actively monitors component lifecycles and will notify you of any End-of-Life (EOL) or obsolete parts, suggesting drop-in replacements or redesign options to keep your production running.
What is your typical lead time for prototypes and mass production? +
For prototype runs where components are readily available, we can complete assembly in 3 to 5 working days. For standard mass production runs, the lead time is typically 3 to 4 weeks after all components and PCBs are received at our facility. Turnkey projects depend on component lead times, which we optimize through early procurement and strategic buffering.
Do you perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews? +
Absolutely. Every project undergoes a comprehensive DFM review before we begin production. Our engineers analyze your Gerber files, Bill of Materials (BOM), and assembly drawings to identify potential issues such as incorrect footprints, component clearance problems, thermal relief issues, and panelization inefficiencies. This minimizes production delays and reduces manufacturing costs.
What testing options do you offer for finished PCBA boards? +
We offer a wide range of testing services, including In-Circuit Testing (ICT) using bed-of-nails fixtures, Flying Probe testing for prototypes, Functional Circuit Testing (FCT) using custom-built test jigs, boundary scan testing, and environmental thermal stress screening. We work closely with our clients to implement their custom test procedures and firmware programming requirements.
How do you handle IP protection and data security? +
We take intellectual property protection very seriously. We sign comprehensive Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) with all clients. Internally, access to client design files is restricted to authorized engineers on a need-to-know basis. Our servers are protected by advanced firewalls, and we do not share your designs, BOMs, or proprietary information with third parties without your explicit written consent.
What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)? +
We do not have a strict minimum order quantity. We support our clients throughout their product lifecycle, from single-unit prototypes and low-volume pilot runs to high-volume mass production. Our flexible manufacturing lines are designed to handle rapid setup changes, making it cost-effective to run small batches.
